Marilyn Monroe.. Her Biography

Decades after this stars’ death, she still remains one of Hollywood’s greatest sex symbols, with her mesmerizing looks and enchanting way of speaking.

Norma Jean Baker, or better known as Marilyn Monroe, has suffered a terrible and loveless childhood that included two years in an orphanage. When Norma was seven years old, her mother was hospitalized to a severe mental condition. Norma was left in a series of foster homes, and was constantly on the move, and this has affected Norma’s educational background. After Norma’s sixteenth birthday, her foster parents had to move from California. To avoid an orphanage or a new foster home, Norma chose to get married. On June 19, 1942, Norma married James Dougherty, but they got divorced 4 years later. After going through all of these experiences, Norma should have learnt to be strong and independent, however, it had made her become more insecure of herself.
During World War II, Norma worked at a company called The Radio Plane Company in California, so after that she was discovered by photographers due to her breathless looks. By this time she had begun modelling bathing suits and, after bleaching her hair blonde, posed for pin-ups and glamour photos, and in 1946, aware of her considerable charm and the potential it had for a career in films, and Soon after that, she moved to Hollywood.

She signed her contract for acting and modelling, and that’s when she changed her name to Marilyn Monroe. Her first few years, she did small parts in movies, but soon after that, she got bigger roles and  had found fame in the movies : ‘Niagara’, ‘Gentlemen Prefer Blondes’ and ‘How To Marry a Millionaire’.

On that same year, she started dating the baseball star Jo diMaggio and has posed for nude pictures on “Playboy Magazine” because apparently her reason was that she wasn’t able to pay for her rent.

Before filming  ‘There’s No Business Like Show Business’ and ‘The Seven-Year Itch’, (known for the classic scene in which she stood over a subway grating, skirt billowing) She applied for divorce from DiMaggio and was sent to Payne Whitney Psychiatric Mental Clinic, as she was suffering from psychiatric disorder.

After this mess, Monroe’s career slowly started to go down, critics praised her acting in 1956 film ‘Bus Stop’. She married playwright Arthur Miller the same year, divorcing him four years later. In the meantime, she became addicted to alcohol and pills, and suffered two miscarriages.

Two years later, she filmed her final movie written by her husband called “The Misfits”; She was fired from a movie called “Something’s Got To Give” because she wasn’t turning up to the filming sessions. During this period, she was known to have had an affair with John F. and Robert Kennedy.

On August 5th 1962, she was found dead, after slipping into a coma caused by an overdose of sleeping pills. Her body was discovered by her psychiatrist Dr. Greenson, he said that when he entered her bedroom, he found her lying naked in her bed with an empty bottle of Nembutal sleeping pills by her side. Detectives who have visited the death site said that Monroe’s death conditions indicated possible suicide.

Till now, Marilyn Monroe still remains one of the most beautiful women in the world, and still remains an idol to many young women and she will never be forgotten.
